Tips on How to Spend Less on Printer Cartridges

Ink cartridges are expensive. Their cost is likely to overrun all others in the office. Worse still, they will ground your operations if they are not working. This calls for care whenever you are dealing with printer cartridges to avoid spending all your profits on them. How can you avoid turning your printing needs into a sink hole in your office? Here are professional tips to follow.

1.       Invest In A New Printer

A cartridge will only be as good as the printer on which it is used. It is common for people to buy printers from sale yards. Such a printer will only throw you into the deep end because you do not know its history. It appears cheap when you are buying it but it will prove expensive in the long run. A new printer comes with excellent working parts that save you operation cost in the long run. Old ones consume a lot of ink and may even damage your cartridges.

2.       Check The Settings On Your Printer

Each printing job is unique. While printers come with settings, they are universal and not customized for your unique needs. Determine how much ink you need on the paper and the quality of images you require. It is not all printing jobs that require a lot of ink. Classify your printing jobs and choose the amount of ink with every print. This will save you an incredible deal in ink.

3.       Use Your Printer On Regular Basis

I am sure this comes as a surprise to printer users but this is the reality. Without printing often, ink will clot on the cartridge. Once ink has dried up on the cartridge, you end up losing the entire cartridge. It is expensive to replace a cartridge that has not even been used. When it is not in use, there are directions on how it should be stored to avoid drying.

4.       Turn Your Printer Off Properly

It is counterproductive to turn your printer off every day. You end up losing about 5% of your ink. There is a maintenance routine that happens every time you turn the printer on. It involves sending ink to all printing holes on the printer. This is unnecessary consumption. The correct procedure ensures that the cartridge is positioned in a way that in in the cartridge will not dry. Use the ‘turn-off’ button before cutting power.

5.       Take Warnings With A Pinch Of Salt

Printers are designed to warn you when the ink is running low. However, it is not time to throw away the cartridge because the ‘low-ink‘sign has emerged. It is time to make plans for a replacement. Surprisingly, you still have about 20% of ink by the time it is declaring ‘low ink’. Continue printing until the quality no longer allows you.
